Wide Garden Arches
A popular reason to buy a garden arch is to span a pathway in your garden or outside space.
Many garden archways, especially those at lower price points, generally seem to be around 1 metre wide (about 3 feet) which may be a little on the narrow side for most paths.
Between the Posts
It is important to realise that the width quoted on many arches is the total width of the structure, and not necessarily the space available to walk through "between the posts".
This is particularly true of flat-top timber arches where the top section will overhang the sides, sometimes by quite a bit. This is ideal for hanging baskets, but it does steal space from between the posts.
Happily, there are a number of wider arches on the market now, some of which can be up to 3 metres wide (10 feet). Most archways at this size will be metal, rather than timber.
Here is a selection of extra wide garden arches that offer at least a gap of 1.2 metres (4 feet) between the posts.

1. Agriframes Monet Arch

The Monet is actually a range of metal arches in a classic, simple style that are available in a range of different widths and heights ranging from 1.2 to 3.6 metres wide. (The price we quoted here is for the 1.8 metre wide version).
Like all Agriframes arches, the Monet is constructed from high quality galvanised steel that is then powder coated black for the ultimate weather protection.
There is also a 10 year guarantee. Patio feet for hardstanding, and infill panels are useful optional extras.

The king of wide timber arches with a massive 1.65 metre (5.5 feet) span between the posts!
This is the big brother of the normal Ultima arch, although in 2022 it shrunk! It used to be 2.7 metres total width but is now 2.4m - still wide for a timber arch.
The attractive design features a fine diamond latticework on the side panels and the flat roof has plenty of rafters with a decent overhang - ideal for hanging baskets.
It's made from responsibly sourced timber and is pressure treated against rot and guaranteed for 15 years. Excellent value - that's a lot of timber for your money! With its good looks, wide span and great price it's a best seller.
It was unavailable for most of last year but finally seems to be coming back into stock now.

"A wider than average timber arch with useful lattice side panels and a raftered top section"
The Twilight is probably the next widest timber arch after the Large Ultima, and does follow the same design trends.
The trellis side panels are useful for climbing plants, and there's a raftered top section.
The arch is 1.50 metres between the posts and 2.1 metres wide overall. It's very reasonably priced for the size.

Last but by no means least in our round-up, this metal arch from Selections is the budget option.
It just about squeezes into our criteria at 147cm wide between the posts, while the large overhangs of the attractive top section take the total width to just over 2 metres.
It has some nice detailing that is not too ornate, and overall this arch conveys a subtle Oriental look.
It comes with ground spikes to help you keep it sturdy in the ground, although being made from tubular steel we wouldn't recommend it being sited in a very exposed, windy location.

Made from extra thick 25mm square section steel, the ellipse arch is strong and yet possess an elegant, flatter curved top section. If you can't find the size you want, Harrod also offer their made to measure service on this arch.
